Exploring Sonic Interaction with Artefacts in Everyday Contexts

leave a comment »

Tomorrow I will travel to Paris. On Saturday I will attend the LSAS2008 Workshop on Semantic Audio at IRCAM to meet some of the guys of the MIR community. After having a great day off on Sunday -recovering from La fete de la musique- I will attend a very important workshop for me on Monday, again at IRCAM. It is the workshop on Exploring Sonic Interaction with Artefacts in Everyday Contexts. Today I was asked to bring an everyday sonic device with me and to explain why I love it, use it … For a moment I thought about bringing my beloved cracklebox (invented at STEIM), but I decided that it might be a better idea to talk about my special relationship to the iPOD touch.

MAS MAD and Le Laboratoire

leave a comment »

I found 2 different brandnew essential links on interdisciplinarity, bridging the gaps between art and science, etc.! Really exciting stuff:
1) MAD is the Postgraduate Program Mobile Application Design of the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. I really like their approach towards teaching innovative design beyond current paradigms.
2) Le Laboratoire is the physical artscience center in Paris, founded by David Edwards. He seems to be one of the earliest people who used the term ARTSCIENCE. He has written a book on the topic entitled Creativity in the Post-Google Generation.

Fashionable Urban Sync Jacket / Sketch

leave a comment »

I really have no glue about the design of fashion. At least I am able to rate if clothes are fashionable. With the advent of intelligent textiles and the paradigm of wearables a lot of fashion designers started to explore this field. Hopefully I will find some partner to cooperate on a design of an intelligent jacket being able to gather data, visualize&sonify and transmit the aggregated data from the surroundings. It should raise awareness of the person interfacing the city and expose certain social data to the inhabitants passing by.

I picked up a brandnew ZOOM H2 this morning at my local music dealer. This handy surround recorder will be my companion over the next months … or even years. I am looking forward to make my first field recordings today and will share the results with you soon!

ingeborg immelie.wordpress.com

There is so much excellent work out there … Without it inspiration would be missing and thorough scientific advice, too. For today I would like to cite 2 different great works which inspired very much the stuff I would love to work on in Urban Sync.

1) These illustrations of different kind of network types are really awesome!
Done by Ingeborg Marie Dehs Thomas and found at the great Information Aesthetics blog!

2) The illustrations of Ingeborg are inspired very much by the great work of Dunne & Raby I detected one year ago when I built my first public installation to sonify the Hertzian Space.
